BLENDER Short Film to Screen at 25th Annual Indie Memphis Film Festival
DALLAS (September 14, 2022) – Production company The Monthly Junk today announced the second film festival selection of its short film, BLENDER, by the Indie Memphis Film Festival. BLENDER will be screened in the After Dark - National Shorts block at this year’s event, which takes place at The Studio on the Square in Memphis, Tennessee Friday, October 21st at 10:45pm.
A comedy horror set in 1991, BLENDER features gossiping housewives Jess, played by Sarah Adams, and Meg, played by Maggie Rieth Austin, discussing the joy of smoothies, the hidden dangers of the PTA, and the sweet, sweet taste of revenge. Further misadventures of Jess, Meg, and the Parkside Elementary PTA can be explored in the not-true-true-crime BLENDER companion podcast, available on all major podcast platforms.
“Jess and Meg are such fun characters, and we loved exploring their absurdity,” said Rieth Austin. “They take things too far, but their struggles will be familiar to any parent who’s ever had beef with the PTA.”
BLENDER stars and was written by Adams and Rieth Austin, the veteran comedy duo behind The Monthly Junk. It was directed by Adams and produced by Adams, Rieth Austin and Brett Cassel of Daisy Cutter Productions.
“We are thrilled to have been selected to participate in this year’s Indie Memphis Film Festival,” said Adams. “It’s an honor and a privilege to see our work alongside so many of the country’s most creative filmmakers.”
Close to 50 feature films and dozens of shorts and music videos from Memphis, the Mid-South and around the world will be screened during the 25 anniversary of Indie Memphis, which runs Oct. 19-24. BLENDER will screen as part of the After Dark - National Shorts block on Friday, October 21 at 10:45pm. About the Indie Memphis Film Festival
The Indie Memphis Film Festival brings a range of independent features, documentaries, and short films to Memphis from all corners of the world. They are inspired by the social and artistic history of Memphis, as a majority Black city in the South. While seeking to redefine prestige, they celebrate new, original films and value rediscovery within film history.
The goal of the festival is to embody a truly inclusive space — where conversations about new art and film naturally dominate and conversations about how to achieve diversity are unnecessary because it is already a truly diverse space. They screen and discuss films that are artistically and intellectually challenging, as well as eccentric, humorous, and fun.
About The Monthly Junk
The Monthly Junk started in 2013, as Sarah Adams and Maggie Rieth Austin sat in front of an old couch in the Dallas Comedy House lobby and laughed and laughed at how hilarious they were. Before too long, they put up a camera and filmed some bits. Ever since that day, they have been making each other laugh on and off camera. As a duo, The Monthly Junk has written, produced, and performed in comedy both on screen and on the stage. Sarah and Maggie also bring their own experience as advertisers, marketers, actors, comedians, filmmakers, and, of course, besties, which make every collaboration a unique and delightful experience.
